Blueberry Banana Smoothie

Judah loves to help and even at 3 years old, there is a lot that he CAN do.  His favorite tasks are stirring, pushing the button on the blender, turning on the mixer, and pouring in pre-measured ingredients.  He gets lots of practice counting as well and, of course, he is always the chief-taste-tester.

In the winter months, we do lots of baking, but in the summer, we have fun making frozen, healthy treats to help us beat the summer heat.  Judah loves smoothies and milkshakes.  I have always been a sucker for a good smoothie and my husband is an ice cream connoisseur.

Here’s one of our favorite treats -- it is a cross between a milkshake and a smoothie.  You can easily trade the ice cream for frozen yogurt or regular yogurt, if you desire.  I like this treat best with good, homemade vanilla ice cream made with organic ingredients.  Here’s our own special recipe so you can try it yourself…

Blueberry Banana Dream

1 scoop low fat vanilla ice cream

½ banana

½ cup Georgia blueberries

splash 2% or skim milk

Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender.  Add a little milk at a time until you get the consistency you like.  You can always add more, but you can’t add less!

For a really frosty treat pour the smoothie into popsicle molds or ice cube trays and make your own ice cream treats!
